The ring of columns emerging from the mist

The roof edge with a bird, in mist
Two worlds meet here. The city on one side. Nature on the other. They have always lived close, and rarely well.
Oak branch against the sky
Horses grazing in the mist, the ring behind the trees
The colonnade with a hand reaching out
We photographed it in mist. The building half disappears but the land never does. The columns turn to pale verticals among the trees. The ring dissolves before it closes.
A figure in the field at night, the moon
Inside the colonnade, benches, horses beyond
Oak branch and columns
The building answers with a line, not a wall. A ring of slender columns, set down in the field. You can see through it. You can walk through it. The horses graze against its edge as if it had always been there. A threshold, not a fence.
A horse under the oak, the ring reflected in the pond
Concrete columns and shadows
An office in open land, at the edge of Matosinhos. Where the built world ends and something older begins.
The columns receding in perspective
The long corridor with skylights, a chair at the end
Humanity arrives in nature as an intruder. This one chose to be a guardian. It does not claim the land. It keeps it.
The building lit at dusk through the pines
