The cabins on slender legs among the pines

Two cyclists in the tall grass among the pines
In a pine forest in the north of Portugal, the cabins are made to disappear. Raised on slender legs, set among the trunks, low under the canopy. You look for them, and the forest looks back.

The cabins among the pines, sunlit clearing
Our task was to vanish too. We studied the real forest, its light, its colour, the damp weight of its air, and matched it exactly. A cabin that belongs.
Tall pine trunks and a white chair
Meadow with bluebells and butterflies
We worked only in daylight, and that was a choice. By day the forest gives everything, and takes you in.

At night the cabins ask for less. No lit windows tearing at the dark, no glow under the trees. The forest keeps its nights, and we kept our distance.
